Society President and Chair of Communications Committee

During 2018, Council will need to identify the next President of the Society, who will take office in January 2019 for three years. Council will also need to find the next Chair of the Communications Committee, who will serve a year as Chair-Elect during 2019 before coming onto Council for three years from January 2020.

These are both key roles that make a big difference to the microbiology community, and Council is keen to ensure a strong field of candidates. In the first instance, any member who wants to nominate either themselves or someone else for either of these roles can send an email to Professor Maggie Smith, the General Secretary, at

At this stage, please submit a short paragraph explaining the candidate’s qualifications by 18 February 2018.

A panel of Council members will use these to judge the level of interest before inviting formal nominations in the Spring, which will be considered by Council in July.
