Abstract

Genetic screens have been a recurring and fulfilling part of my research career. I will describe how my interest in molecular genetics led to the development of the idea of signature-tagged mutagenesis. I will discuss its application to Salmonella, the discovery of the SPI-2-encoded injectisome and our work on delivery of effector proteins and their interactions with host proteins in mammalian cells.
