Biography

Antibiotic resistance is a global challenge, causing roughly 1.5 million deaths per year. New approaches that enable the rapid and cost-effective discovery of novel antibiotics are needed. In this talk, we will explore the application of AI techniques to discover and design novel antibiotics with activity against drug-resistant bacterial pathogens. We will also discuss the utility of AI methods to predict the biological functions of novel antibacterial molecules. Our goal is to have an honest and grounded discussion about what AI can and can't do to help us solve the AMR crisis through novel drug discovery.
