Abstract

Antibiotic awareness campaigns in England using posters or leaflets have had little or no impact on knowledge, behaviour or prescription rates. To change behaviour and reduce antibiotic use in England, an interdisciplinary and multimodal approach using behavioural science and targeted at specific groups (both professional and public) was developed in 2014. So far more than 145,000 pledges have been made on the Antibiotic Guardian campaign website by >120,000 individuals in more than 180 countries worldwide. Through the Antibiotic Guardian brand, a range of education and engagement activities for healthcare professionals, health students and the public have been developed and implemented, including the national One Health Healthcare Students AMR conference, the Antibiotic Guardian Shared Learning & Awards event and the Antibiotic Guardian Schools Ambassadors Scheme.
