Biography

Charlotte is a second year PhD student at Newcastle University. Her research interests lie within the mechanisms of virulence in pathogenic bacteria, with her PhD focusing on sporulation in Clostridioides difficile. Outside of the lab, she enjoys getting involved in science communication and creating science art. She created a stop motion video of her research that was awarded second place in the Biochemical Society’s Science Communication Prize, collaborated with fellow microbiologists and science communicators to create a Microbial Arts & Crafts workshop for International Microorganism Day, and is currently collaborating with a team of talented science artists and researchers on Resist NOW - a project aiming to create a sci-fi comic anthology about antibiotic resistance and the cutting-edge research being done to combat it. She also runs Stitching Science, a small Etsy business that sells jewellery, cross stitch patterns, and stitched designs.
