Biography

Quentin is a final year PhD student at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and St George’s University of London, with a background in microbiology and epidemiology. His current work focuses on understanding the dynamics of horizontal gene transfer of antimicrobial resistance in Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. For this, he combines laboratory and mathematical modelling methods, to generate in vitro data and simultaneously build models to reveal the invisible dynamics of bacteria in this environment. Using this interdisciplinary framework, he has generated novel insights on the dual nature of bacteriophages, viruses which act both as bacterial predators and drivers of antimicrobial resistance evolution through the process of transduction.
