There is just over one week left to apply for this year’s Microbiology in Society Award to support any education, outreach or public engagement work that promotes the art and science of microbiology.

Up to £5,000 will be presented to an individual or team whose outreach initiatives inspire and educate wider communities about microbiology and allow them to make informed decisions which recognise the importance of microbiology and its advances.

Winner of the 2018 Award, Dr Lindsay Hall said “our application was aimed at expanding our Guardians of the Gut interactive exhibit – in the form of a teacher-lead classroom pack. The Microbiology in Society Award funding allowed us to develop a brand new website with downloadable content and videos, meaning we have massively expanded our ‘audience’ - reaching lots of primary school children. These funds meant we could be bigger and bolder in our public engagement activities, with the aim of teaching kids about their resident gut microbes – and hopefully inspiring the next generation of budding microbiologists!”.

Applications for our 2021 award will close on 18 April 2021. Find out more and apply on our website here. For any questions, please contact [email protected].
