Networking opportunities and social programme at Annual Conference 2019

In addition to a broad programme of science, Annual Conference presents lots of opportunities for delegates to network and socialise with colleagues, contacts and friends. The daily drinks reception and poster presentation session takes place between 18:30 and 20:00 and is a great opportunity to meet new people in your field. The Conference also offers a dedicated social programme, with informal opportunities for delegates to make new friends, forge future collaborations and have fun.
Early Career Microbiologists' pre-Conference networking event
Sunday 7 April 18:00 – 20:00, Bar 1
After the pre-Conference Teaching Microbiology in Higher Education Symposium finishes up on Sunday, the Early Career Microbiologists' (ECM) Forum Executive Committee will be hosting an evening of interactive games and networking. Participants will have the opportunity to get to know other delegates, including senior members of the Society and ECM Forum members. This event will be a great way to meet potential collaborators and scientists from the breadth of the microbiology discipline and different career levels.
Crumlin Road Gaol Tour
Monday 8 April, 20:00 – 23:00
HMP Belfast, also known as Crumlin Road Jail, is a former prison situated on the Crumlin Road in north Belfast and is the only Victorian-era prison remaining in Northern Ireland. On the first night of Annual Conference, the jail will be opened exclusively for registered delegates. Guests will receive a glass of prosecco and canapés on arrival before going on a 70-minute guided tour to experience what life was like at the old jail.
Society quiz and games night, Lavery’s bar
Wednesday 10 April, 20:00 – 23:00
The annual Society quiz and games night will be taking place at Lavery's bar with its roof terrace and a private floor for Annual Conference delegates. Lavery's is a traditional Northern Irish bar just 15 minutes from the main convention centre. The ever-popular annual quiz will start here at 20:30 with prizes up for grabs. Meet old and new friends and get together in teams of six or more to compete to secure the prized Society medal.
