People’s Choice and ECM Forum Poster Prize winners at the Annual Conference 2019

Annual Conference welcomed a wealth of great posters across four days, with many poster prizes recognising the best presenters. Last week we announced poster prizes awarded by the Society journals and this week we are pleased to announce the winners of the People’s Choice and Early Career Microbiologists’ (ECM) Forum competitions.

The People’s Choice Poster Prize was voted on by delegates and recognises the most popular posters presented during the Annual Conference. Alanna Gallagher from Imperial College London was awarded first prize for her poster presentation ‘Molecular evolution of Zika viruses’. Philippa Loftus from Edge Hill University was awarded second prize for her poster ‘Genomic Trends on the Biogenic CaCO3 production in the genus Bacillus’ and Jonathon Coey from Queen's University Belfast was awarded third prize for his poster ‘The anti-RSV activity of IRF9 & IFI6: Two genes implicated in severe RSV disease’.

The ECM Forum Poster Prize recognised the most promising ECM Forum member presenting a talk or a poster and was judged by the Forum’s Executive Committee. The 2019 ECM Forum Poster Prize was awarded to Emily Warman from the University of Birmingham for her poster presentation, ‘Properties and Directionality of Intragenic Promoters in E. coli’. David Sünderhauf from the University of Exeter is highly commended for his poster presentation ‘Targeting Antimicrobial Resistance Genes in Clinical Isolates from Healthcare-Associated Infections Using CRISPRCas9’.
