Council appointed positions

During 2021, Council will need to appoint the next President of the Society, who will take office from 1 January 2022, for three years.

In addition, the Society is also seeking expressions of interest from candidates for the following roles:

  • Co-Chair-elect of the Building Communities Committee, to serve two years as Chair-elect of the Scientific Conferences Panel and co-Chair-elect of Building Communities Committee from 1 January 2022 (then two years as Chair of the Scientific Conference Panel and co-Chair of Building Communities Committee from 1 January 2024).
  • Co-Chair of the Impact and Influence Committee, to serve three years from 1 January 2022
  • Co-Chair-elect of the Impact and Influence Committee to serve one year as co-Chair-elect from 1 January 2022 (then three years as co-Chair from 1 January 2023).
  • Co-Chair of the Sustainability Committee, who will serve three years from 1 January 2022.

These are key roles that make a big difference to the microbiology community, and Council is keen to ensure a strong field of candidates.

In the first instance, any member who wants to nominate either themselves or someone else for any of these roles can send an email to [email protected]

At this stage, please just write a short paragraph explaining why the candidate is suited to the role. Submissions should be received no later than Tuesday 9 March 2021.

The nominations will be reviewed by the Council appointments panel who will seek further information from individuals as required and will take a shortlist of preferred candidates and a final recommendation to Council in July for consideration and appointment.

After any “elect” period, all positions will serve as members of Council and as such will not only undertake duties relevant to the specific role, but also as trustees of the Society.

Self-nominations are accepted. If suggesting a peer, please provide contact information and state if the individual is aware of the nomination. Candidates must be, or be willing to become, a member of the Society in order to take office.
