Nominations for the Microbiology Society Prize Lectures are now open

Nominations for the Microbiology Society 2025 Prize Lectures, including our new Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Prize Lecture, are now open. These awards celebrate excellence within the microbiology community by championing the contributions made by microbiologists, and their work in addressing global challenges.
All of our members, and groups of members, are welcome to submit a nomination for consideration by the Prize Award Panel for the following awards:
- 2024 Outreach Prize
- 2025 Marjory Stephenson Prize
- 2025 Translational Microbiology Prize
- 2025 Peter Wildy Prize
- 2025 Fleming Prize
- 2025 Equality Diversity and Inclusion Prize
- 2026 Prize Medal
This will be the first year that members can submit a nomination for our newly launched Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Prize and the prize winner will present the inaugural Prize Lecture in 2025. This new award will recognise outstanding work of those in the microbiology community, driving to create an inclusive culture that supports equality and diversity in microbiology.
To nominate someone for a Prize Lecture, please visit the relevant Prize Lecture page to find out more about its remit, judging criteria and past winners of the Prizes. Members may also download the nomination form on the same page. We recommend that members contact the person they would like to nominate and work alongside them to complete the nomination form. We have provided example nomination forms from previous winners to demonstrate the level of detail required for nominations.
Nominations for our 2025 Prize Lectures and 2026 Prize Medal will remain open until Monday 13 May 2024.

Want to be involved in the awarding process? Get involved in the 2024 Prize Award Panel
The Panel will discuss all nominations received before presenting a shortlist for the Prize Medal and a recommendation for all other Prize Lecture winners to Council for endorsement at the September meeting of Council.
Please apply by submitting your expression of interest to [email protected] by Monday 13 May 2024. This should be a short e-mail (no more than 250 words) with your name, job title, affiliation, area of expertise and a brief summary of your suitability as a member of the Panel.
The Panel will convene to review nominations for the Outreach Prize in early June and will meet review nominations for all other prizes on Tuesday 23 July. Prospective panel members should ensure they are available to attend this meeting, and to set aside the time necessary to read the nomination forms.
