Society Champions
What is the Champions Scheme?
The Champions Scheme is essential in helping to raise awareness of the Microbiology Society and microbiology. Champions do this in their local area, in an interactive way by initiating activities and events of their own or participating in Society-led activities. The aim is to increase awareness and membership of the Society.
What does it take to be a Champion?
Champions are Microbiology Society members who come from a broad range of microbiology backgrounds, who would like to become more involved in the Society’s activities.
Our ideal Champion will be a good communicator with a passion for their subject material, and a willingness to share this with others. In addition, we would like Champions to be comfortable talking about membership and potentially be prepared to ask the question ‘would you like to join the Microbiology Society’. As a guide, over a 12-month period, we would like Champions to take part in two to three activities.
We’re here to support you
We provide our Champions with opportunities to engage and collaborate with other Champions. We will help you with resources, include Champion activities on the Society website and share activities on social media when highlighted to us. We will reimburse Champion-related expenses when they are agreed beforehand.
When you become a Champion, you will be invited to join our online Champions group where you will be able to chat with Champions worldwide, get involved in collaborations, share advice, knowledge and best practices.
What will I get out of being a Champion?
Being a Champion is a great way to enhance your professional development, showcase your work, be kept in the loop on training and development opportunities and build your professional networks.
