Annual Conference 2025: Welcome from the President
31 March 2025
I am delighted to welcome everyone to Annual Conference 2025, which returns this year to Liverpool. I am looking forward to the fantastic opportunity offered by Conference to talk to as many members as possible across the week.
Dear Colleagues,
I am delighted to welcome everyone to Annual Conference 2025 in Liverpool. This is my first Conference as President, and I am looking forward to talking to as many of you as possible during the week.
The Microbiology Society is rightly proud of its reputation at the heart of a friendly, nurturing, and approachable community. We are delighted to welcome anyone interested in microbes, their effects, and their uses to the vast range of science on offer throughout Conference.
The Society is a membership charity and not-for-profit publisher. Anyone who has attended Conference before will know by now that four early-career members will be with us this year for the first time thanks to revenue generated by just one article published in one of our journals. Our message to you all is simple: publish with us to benefit your community.
This week, you can visit the Society stand and the Get Involved area to find out about everything your Society offers. Our aim is to amplify the voices of all of our members, irrespective of location or career stage. You can be part of this by joining us on a Committee, Panel or Advisory Council, sharing your work via our popular channels, or submitting your research to our journals portfolio. It’s easy to find out more; just talk to a member of the Society staff or ask one of our Champions or anyone in a governance role. We are all happy to share our experience.
Annual Conference is an inclusive environment for everyone, and we listen to and act on your feedback. Read more about how we plan to meet the needs of all of our delegates.
I look forward to talking to you this week.

Professor Gordon Dougan FRS, President
