General Secretary's Panels

For certain processes or awards within its responsibility, Council delegates authority to the General Secretary to convene panels to consider and bring recommendations back to Council for decision or ratification.

The General Secretary convenes panels for the following purposes:

  1. On an annual basis to consider recommendations for the appointment of Council-appointed positions. This is known as the Appointments Panel.
  2. On an annual basis to consider nominations for Honorary Membership. This is known as the Honorary Membership Review Panel.
  3. On an annual basis to consider recommendations for the award of prizes. This is known as the Prize Award Panel.
  4. On an ad hoc basis to consider matters of professional standards. This is known as the Professional Standards Panel.

 

  • Appointments Panel

    The Appointments Panel considers nominations for those positions on Council which are directly appointed by Council. 

  • Honorary Membership Review Panel

    Honorary Membership is offered by the Society’s Council to distinguished microbiologists who have made a significant contribution to the discipline of microbiology and/or the Society.

  • Professional Standards Panel

    The Professional Standards Panel reviews cases where where Council has reason to believe that the professional standards of one of its members or of a prize winner have been called into question.
