23 November, Online
As part of the Microbiology Society's Knocking out AMR project, the Society presents AMR in Focus - Navigating science, public engagement, and policy: versatile skills to work across AMR. With the speakers, Ava Drake, from the University of Stirling and Larissa Chicoski, from SRUC.
Engaging with policy early in a research career can sometimes feel disconnected from day-to-day research. Understanding how policy relates to AMR research, why engagement can be valuable and where to start can be challenging. Similarly, opportunities to engage with the public and communicate research beyond academic audiences are not always easy to find. Traditional PhD programmes, postdoctoral positions and research projects do not always provide exposure to these settings or the broader skills they can help develop.
To mark World AMR Awareness Week, this webinar is hosted in partnership with NextGenAMR, an interdisciplinary network for early-career AMR researchers. NextGenAMR co-founders Ava Drake and Larissa Chicoski will draw on their experiences across academia, public engagement, UK Parliament and Government to explore how researchers can navigate these different spaces, the transferable skills they can develop along the way, and practical ways for ECRs to get involved.
