Join us this Peer Review Week for a Publishing Fundamentals webinar session exploring peer review from the reviewer’s perspective with Andrew Preston (Editor-in-Chief, Microbiology) and Tom Sharp (Publisher). This workshop will lift the lid on how peer review works, how to write a constructive review, what Editors look for in reviews, and how to get involved with the Microbiology Society’s journals as a reviewer.

Publishing Fundamentals

Our Publishing Fundamentals programme is developed for early-career researchers and those who want to better understand how academic publishing works, including how to get involved with the Society’s journals as authors, editors, or reviewers.

The Publishing Fundamentals webinars will offer attendees the opportunity to learn from publishing specialists from the Society’s staff and research scientists who are experienced editors across the Society’s journals and have an active role in shaping our publishing portfolio and assessing papers submitted to our journals.

Programme

Attendees will have the opportunity to find out how they can get involved as a reviewer across the Microbiology Society’s publishing portfolio. The webinar will cover:

  • The life cycle of a manuscript in peer review
  • What to consider when your receive an invitation to review
  • How Editors use reviews and what they look for
  • How to write a good review, including real-life examples
  • The revision process from the reviewer’s perspective
  • Q&A

This Publishing Fundamentals webinar will be free to attend for Microbiology Society members. Non-member registration is £10.00.

You will receive an email with joining instructions, a Zoom link, and any other relevant information two days before the webinar. A second reminder email will be sent one hour before the webinar. Please note registration will close one hour before the webinar.
