In anticipation of #Microbio23, our delegates were looking forward to four days of scientific symposia, workshops, fora, professional development sessions, Prize Lectures, Hot Topics and much more!

Our delegates were excited to attend the Conference and see everyone, for many delegates it was their first time attending!

Students from the Quadrum Institute were looking forward to sharing their posters.

Our Editors were looking forward to talking about #PublishingForTheCommunity with our delegates.

Daniel travelled across the Andes mountains to attend the Conference!

Greg and the gang travelled to Conference on a fun bus.

Shauna was also looking forward to travelling to Conference.

Angus was looking forward to attending his first Conference!

One of our exhibitors, Adam, from Cellexus was looking forward to showcasing their CellMaker bioreactor.

Katherine was greeted with a wave and smiles from our Society staff.

As Annual Conference 2023 commenced, our President Del Besra and Chief Executive Peter Cotgreave welcomed over 1,665 registered delegates to #Microbio23!

Prize Lectures

We were delighted to host several Prize Lectures throughout the week, presented by our eminent microbiologists Adrian Hill, Wendy Barclay, Sharon Peacock, Ravindra Gupta, Iruka Okeke, Tanmay Bharat, Kalai Mathee and Jonathan Tyrrell. The talks featured their significant scientific contribution to the field of microbiology from across the world!

Scientific sessions and poster presentations

Scientific sessions at #Microbio23 included symposia, workshops, and presentations from both invited and offered talk speakers. The sessions provided many opportunities to showcase research from both early career and established microbiologists. Here are some highlights below:

Social sessions

The Society was delighted and thankful to our Champions and Early Career Microbiologists (ECM) for hosting social events to offer informal opportunities for delegates to make new friends, forge future collaborations and have fun!

For the second year in the running, our delegates were looking forward to the LGBTQ+ social event organised by our Champions: I'ah Donovan-Banfield, Daniel Gonçalves-Carneiro, Bruno Francesco Rodrigues de Oliveira member, Rebee Penrice-Randal!

Our youngest microbiologists

Our Chief Executive, Peter Cotgreave, met adorable junior Peter for the second year in a row at Conference, thanks to the crèche service!

We are very happy to see how useful the crèche service was for parents at Conference, helping them attend the Conference with their little ones and enjoy the science.

Thank you to Nipperbout staff for provding a wonderful crèche service.

Our youngest #Microbio23 delegate!
