Overview

Maynooth University Undergraduate Summer School will focus on three broad areas of biology 1) Microbiology, 2) Enviromental and Agriculture and 3) Human health and Disease. Postgraduate volunteers from the Department of Biology at Maynooth University and will host a summer school for undergraduate B.Sc Science, B.Sc Biomedical Science, B.Sc Biotechnology and B.Sc Pharmacetuic and Biomedical Sciences students.

The week-long intensive course will consist of a course of lectures (on the areas highlighted above), workshops (presentation skills, scientific writing, ethics) and lab experience (in microbiology labs, antimicrobial resistance, medical mycology and viral-host pathogen interactions, immunology labs, cell signalling, mucosal immunology).

Students will receive lecturers from staff and postgraduate students, be assigned a mentor for lab experience and get the opportunity to present their results on the last day. There will also be prizes for best oral presentation.

There will be quiz night (Tuesday), games night (Thursday) and awards evening (Friday after presentations).
