To celebrate Peer Review Week, the Microbiology Society is pleased to offer a Publishing Fundamentals webinar, freely available for everyone to attend, dedicated to the key role peer review plays in academic publishing to help attendees understand how peer review works, how reviewers should behave, how authors should respond and what editors look for when evaluating peer review reports.

The webinar will take place on Wednesday 25 September, 14:00-15:30.

Publishing Fundamentals

Our Publishing Fundamentals programme is developed for early career researchers and those who want to better understand how academic publishing works, including how to get involved with the Society’s journals as authors, editors or reviewers.

The Publishing Fundamentals webinars will offer attendees the opportunity to learn from publishing specialists from the Society’s staff and research scientists who are experienced editors across the Society’s journals and have an active role in shaping our publishing portfolio and assessing papers submitted to our journals.

Programme

Peer Review Week is an annual event which recognises the value of peer review in bringing together scholarly communication stakeholders, including researchers, academic publishers, associations, institutions. To celebrate Peer Review Week, the Society is pleased to host a Publishing Fundamentals webinar focused on peer review as a key part the publishing process on Wednesday 25 September, 14:00-15:30.

Attendees will have the opportunity to understand how peer review works and its importance in the lifecycle of a manuscript through the lens of a publishing specialist from the Society’s staff and an experienced academic editor and scientist.

  • How to review and the role of reviewers in curating scientific content
  • How to respond to reviewers and address their comments
  • The editor’s perspective: sending manuscript out to review, selecting reviewers, assessing reports, and interacting with the authors.
