The Early Career Microbiologists’ (ECM) Forum will host its flagship Summer Conference dedicated to showcasing early career research, career development and networking. The conference will provide undergraduate, masters and PhD students with a peer-led conference experience designed to offer an introductory experience to scientific conferences and professional development opportunities.
Alongside scientific research presented by early career researchers, delegates will experience professional development sessions focused on exploring the next steps in your career including how to find appropriate funding such as smaller grants and fellowships.
All early career researchers including undergraduate, PhD students and post docs are welcome to attend.
Alison MacFadyen, Strathclyde University, Conor Feehily, University of Oxford, Winnie Lee, University of Bristol
The COVID-19 pandemic has underlined the importance of effectively translating academic research into the clinic and for the management of public health. From population genomics to structural biology and transcriptomics to host-microbe interactions, researching the fundamentals of microbiology allows us to respond to recurrent and emerging problems. This session will explore the exciting research that has potential for translation to global challenges, not only in healthcare but also for the environment.
Microbes have been harnessed for their wonderful properties for millennia. This session will present research that is using microbes to improve food production, generate novel antimicrobials, and form the basis for countless pharmaceutical processes.
Both members and non-members of the Microbiology Society are welcome to submit an abstract for the meeting. Once submissions are closed, they will be reviewed by the organising committee and submitters will be notified of the outcome by email on the week ending 15 August 2021. Abstracts accepted for poster presentation will be asked to submit a pdf version of their poster before 23 August 2021.
Abstract submissions are now closed.
By submitting an abstract to this meeting, you are indicating to the session organisers your commitment to attend the event.
This event is free for all members of the Microbiology Society.
