The Microbiology Society is pleased to announce that it has launched its official account on WeChat, China’s preeminent social media platform, in partnership with Charlesworth. With a goal to better connect with China-based researchers and improve accessibility to its six peer-reviewed titles, this is a significant step in extending reach to international authors.

The Microbiology Society is a not-for-profit publisher whose portfolio offers a home to research from across the breadth of microbiology and virology, and WeChat offers an excellent platform to reach researchers across fields.

“One of our core values as a Society is to be welcoming to anyone interested in microbes and our presence on WeChat is an exciting step forward in better connecting with the Chinese microbiology community” said Peter Cotgreave, Chief Executive of the Microbiology Society. “We look forward to reaching more Chinese microbiologists and encouraging access and engagement with high-quality content from our publishing portfolio.”

The official account (ID: MS Microbiology) will share twice-weekly updates, including signposting the latest and high-performing content from Society titles, translated into Mandarin. Posts will also give insight into the Society’s rich history, back to its foundation in 1945 and its first President, Sir Alexander Fleming.

WeChat account management will be handled by Charlesworth, whose Beijing-based digital marketing teams have a wealth of experience in WeChat account management. This partnership demonstrates the Microbiology Society’s ongoing work to serve the global microbiology community.

"We are delighted to announce the expansion of our partnership with the Microbiology Society to include WeChat marketing, in addition to our existing sales relationship” said Andrew Smith, Global Product and Marketing Director at Charlesworth. “Our services are designed to enhance the experience for authors in China. As part of the agreement, authors submitting to Microbiology Society journals can now receive article status updates from Editorial Manager via WeChat, facilitated by our Charlesworth Gateway tool."

The Microbiology Society

The Microbiology Society is a membership charity for scientists interested in microbes, their effects and their practical uses. It is one of the largest microbiology societies in Europe with a worldwide membership based in universities, industry, hospitals, research institutes and schools.

Our principal goal is to develop, expand and strengthen the networks available to our members so that they can generate new knowledge about microbes and ensure that it is shared with other communities. The impacts from this will drive us towards a world in which the science of microbiology provides maximum benefit to society.
