Join us as we continue our tour of the UK and Ireland and celebrate our 75th anniversary
07 January 2020
Having delivered a successful programme of Roadshow events in 2019, we are pleased to announce that the Society’s President, Professor Judith Armitage, will be continuing her journey around the UK and Ireland throughout 2020. She hopes to meet even more microbiologists and ensure that we continue to develop, expand and strengthen networks and opportunities available to our members and local communities.
In 2020, the President will be visiting the following locations:
- 19 February, University of Strathclyde
- 28 April, University of Cambridge
- 20 May, University of Manchester
- 17 June, Aston University, Birmingham
- 27 October, Quadram Institute, Norwich
- TBC November, Swansea University
Since embarking on her tour earlier this year, Judith has visited Leeds, Newcastle, Dublin, Plymouth and most recently Reading. She’s met almost 250 people, many of whom were members, but most importantly those who knew little or nothing about just how much the Microbiology Society has to offer, especially locally.
During the two-hour event, delegates listen to short talks from the President and the Chief Executive, Peter Cotgreave, as well as Society champions sharing what the Society means to them. Each event allows delegates to connect with both the Society and fellow members, as well as non-members, locally.
Help us celebrate our 75th anniversary
To celebrate our 75th anniversary, we will be marking the milestone at all Roadshows throughout 2020. Join us for a slice of birthday cake and find out more about the Society, meet the President, network with locally like-minded individuals and talk to Society staff.
Below is just some of the feedback we have received from the 2019 Roadshow:
“Excellent - Judith's talk was excellent and very inspiring. I found the networking session to be very useful, it gave me the chance to put names to faces (particularly with the Society staff).”
“This is the first time that microbiologists across the north east have got together in this way. There was good networking...”
“I got to personally meet the President of the Society and she provided many useful insights and comments on my future career and engagement in the Microbiology Society. Event was great!”
“Great to get interested people together in the same room! Thank you so much for coming as it helps to promote the society and raise its visibility. It was great to see and hear from Judy in particular from her story”.
“The event was informative, and the guest speakers were very interesting.”
