The Microbiology Society is a membership charity and not-for-profit publisher. We support and invest in the microbiology community for the benefit of everyone. In order to do this as effectively as possible; to seize opportunities as they arise and, to meet the ambition of our strategy 2023-2027, we are evolving.

Over the coming months our members will see several changes to our activities ranging from the delivery of our communications to the way we administer grants and how we organise events.

Our aim is to deliver the widest possible participation in our programmes and to ensure diverse representation from across our global membership. This will ensure we live up to our value to be welcoming to all and amplify the voices of all of our members, irrespective of location or career stage.

From 2024 we will adopt a digital first policy, reducing print publications to be more environmentally sustainable and to recognise the growing popularity of our digital channels.  The October 2023 issue of Microbiology Today, which focuses on the solutions the microbiology community can provide to the global threat of antimicrobial resistance, will be the last in print. In 2024 editions of Microbiology Today will be published online – via the same popular digital book format we currently use – allowing readers everywhere to enjoy the content.

From 2025, we want to share more of the content authored by you, our members across multiple platforms - increasing your reach and impact - to advance understanding of microbiology. We are planning new routes for content to be shared, to continue to ensure we reach the widest possible audience.

We welcome our members feedback, you can get in touch via email at [email protected]
