Opportunity to represent the Microbiology Society on the UK Standards for Microbiology Investigations Steering Committee
26 April 2022

‘’Diagnosis of infection is vital for successful treatment and for reducing AMR. SMIs set the standard for diagnostic labs and the protocols developed should reflect the full breadth of microbiology knowledge. Involvement of the Microbiology Society contributes to the quality and success of SMIs.’’ - Professor Jodi Lindsay, Microbiology Society representative on the UKSMI Steering Committee.
The Microbiology Society is currently seeking a member to act as our representative on the UK Standards for Microbiology Investigations (UKSMI) Steering Committee.
The UKSMI Steering Committee develops standard guidelines for microbiology investigations. As microbiologists don’t all have access to diagnostic laboratories or are able to keep up with changes in diagnostic practice, these guidelines have become a valuable resource to broaden their understanding of the clinical and diagnostic challenges regarding a variety of pathogens. The UKSMI Steering Committee works with Public Health England, the NHS, the Royal College of Pathologists, and professional and learned societies like the Microbiology Society, to develop and endorse these standards.
As a Microbiology Society representative on the Steering Committee, you will be invited to attend bi-annual meetings, participate in discussions to help re-draft UKSMI documents and ensure the quality of diagnostic services in the UK remains high.
The deadline to apply for this position is 31 May 2022.
