Learn more about publishing at our Publishing Fundamentals session on Tuesday 5 April during Annual Conference 2022. This session, led by Hebba Beech and Hilary Logan, Journal Development Editors at the Microbiology Society, will provide an insight into the lifecycle of scientific research and how you can get more involved at the Microbiology Society.

As part of this lifecycle, we will be joined by Professor Paul Hoskisson (co-Chair of Building Communities Committee) who will give an insight into how to secure funding and the grant reviewing process; we will then explore the life of research to the point of publication and promotion.

Attendees will learn more about the role of editors and reviewers in peer review, and will have an opportunity to practice peer reviewing a manuscript. The session will provide detail as to how to provide a robust review and what to look out for when reviewing a manuscript. Attendees will also learn more about publishing ethics, gaining knowledge of best practice during a research project.

Attendees will hear first-hand from Dr Helina Marshall (co-Editor in Chief of Access Microbiology) how they can get involved with publishing at the Microbiology Society . Helina will share her journey from the ECM Forum Executive Committee Publishing Committee representative to Editor Mentee and now co-Editor in Chief.

This session is aimed at early career researchers but open to anyone at Annual Conference 2022 who is interested in learning more about publishing for the community. Find out more on the Annual Conference programme page.
