The Microbiology Society is delighted to announce the launch of a brand new, Parliamentary Internship Scheme aimed at early career microbiologists working on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).

This internship is running in collaboration with the office of Martyn Day MP. Martyn Day is the Scottish National Party (SNP) MP for Linlithgow and East Falkirk. As Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Food and Health, Human-Relevant Science and various others, Martyn Day is committed to championing policies based on sound science and raising the profile of health issues such as AMR in UK policy.

This programme is one of the ways in which the Society hopes to raise the profile of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) within UK policy, and to foster a greater understanding between the scientists and healthcare professionals in its network and politicians and policymakers. This newly created role is an ideal opportunity for a student working on AMR looking to bring their academic studies to life by developing knowledge and skills, while gaining invaluable experience and developing networks.

Interns will be employed by the Microbiology Society, and act as volunteers within the office of Martyn Day MP. The successful candidate will work seven hours per week, alongside their academic studies – and will be paid via the Microbiology Society payroll at the rate of London Living Wage. Each placement will run for six months. The internship will be conducted in a hybrid fashion – remotely but with the potential for undertaking work on the Parliamentary estate.

Please refer to the job description for full details, intern duties and eligibility requirements.

Your application should consist of a CV and a cover letter, clearly stating that you are currently enrolled on a UK PhD programme related to antimicrobial resistance, and setting out how you meet the desirable criteria. The deadline for applications is Friday 10 November.
