Champions Scheme applications now open
The Champions Scheme is essential in helping to raise awareness of the Microbiology Society and microbiology. Champions do this in their local area by initiating activities and events of their own or participating in Society-led activities.
Funding, guidance and promotion is provided by the Society to support Champions to organise activities, and an online community of other Champions allows them to network with microbiologists all over the world.
Becoming a Champion allows members to showcase their work, expand their networks and further their professional development. In return, we ask that Champions take part in two to three activities per year.
You can find out more about the Scheme, our Champions and their activities via the Society Champions webpage.
Applications are open until 30 April 2026 to join the Champions Scheme. We are currently only looking for new Champions in areas that need further representation. We are also particularly keen to increase representation in Canada, China, Germany and the USA, as well as those working in industry or clinical settings.
Log into Mi Society and go to the Champions Scheme applications section to apply.
In order to become a Champion, you will also need to be available on Thursday 22 May 2026 from 14:00–16:00 BST (UK time), for an important training session.
