Overview

The inaugural Microbes in Microbiomes conference aims to highlight the progress in microbiome science from structure to function with a focus on the individual microbes responsible for these important traits. Our broad areas of interest include microbiomes related to human, animal, plant, and environmental health. However, they are microbe-centric with the intent to feature important species within microbiomes and how they interact with others in complex communities.

Sessions will be divided based on the host or environment where these microbes reside but are meant to drive synergy between approaches of those studying microbes in microbiomes from diverse systems.  A specific area of interest is experimentation with synthetic microbial communities, which is becoming a more commonly used approach to dissect microbial interactions within complex consortia but brings unique challenges ambiguous to the system of study.

Please join us in Miami this Winter 2026, where we will highlight some super microbes within microbiomes that can promote human and environmental health.

Abstracts & Posters

Abstract submission for the Microbes in Microbiomes is now open until Monday, 20 October 2025 23:59 GMT

Submit your abstract

Both members and non-members of the Microbiology Society are welcome to submit an abstract for the meeting. All offered oral presentations and posters will be selected from the abstracts submitted. Once submissions are closed, they will be reviewed by the organising committee and submitters will be notified of the outcome directly.

By submitting an abstract to this meeting, you are indicating to the session organisers your commitment to attend the event.

Abstract Guidance

Abstracts must be a maximum of 250 words. The Society has produced a guide to give delegates some tips on how to write a great abstract, which can be downloaded below:

Please note that the abstract is the only information session organisers use when deciding whether to accept your work for presentation as an offered oral or poster. If accepted, it will also be published in the abstract book for the meeting – so think carefully about what needs to be included.
