Updated scope for the Journal of Medical Microbiology
13 October 2023

The Journal of Medical Microbiology's editors can now reveal the journal's new statement of scope. Responding to the rapid expansion of infection science, we have organised the range of themes and topics we cover under five major headings – clinical microbiology, public health microbiology, antimicrobial countermeasures, mechanisms of microbial disease and veterinary microbiology. A commentary on this inclusive approach to infection science can be found in a recent editorial review.
Topics covered under each major theme can be found by clicking the 'Read more' text under each major heading. Of course, no such listing can cover all aspects of a multidisciplinary field as large as ours. We have addressed this by introducing some major topics that intersect with the five main themes and will build up article collections on these in the future.
If you have written a paper on a topic that does not appear in our statement of scope but think it might be of interest to a medical microbiology readership, please contact [email protected] with your abstract.
