Equipping researchers for better DNA and RNA extractions: MP Biomedicals partners with the Society
Empowering researchers through practical learning
Held at the Quadram Institute UK, the workshop aimed to strengthen participants' technical expertise while providing insights that could be shared across their research teams. MP Biomedicals’ goal was not only to enhance individual skills but also to encourage a culture of continuous learning and knowledge-sharing within the participants’ laboratories.
Throughout the day, participants gained hands-on experience using MP Biomedicals' FastPrep® instruments and extraction kits. Working directly with their own samples, they were able to evaluate how the technology could address common challenges such as low DNA/RNA recovery, contamination risks, and inconsistent results.
Addressing real-world laboratory challenges
Supported with expert guidance, participants learnt ways they could enhance productivity and reduce turnaround times when handling large volumes of samples.
“[I] was mainly there to learn about the workflow and lab methods. [There were] overlaps with existing sample prep in the lab (Maxwell) but the demonstration of the FastPrep® was great. Discussions were very useful - there was a soil protectant mentioned, similar to DNA/RNA shield, which could be very useful in our lab.” Will Boulton, Quadram Institute.
Supporting researchers through education and technical expertise
The workshop provided participants with the tools and expertise needed to navigate challenges and improve research workflows.
“I found the hands-on experiments and discussions with the technical specialists most valuable. [It] provided practical insights… [and] the Q&A session was also helpful for clarifying technical questions. The workshop introduced different methods for DNA extraction from various sample types, which could be useful for my colleagues and our future laboratory work.” Ranran Li, Quadram Institute.
Summing up the day's activities, Sanjeev Kumar from MP Biomedicals emphasised the importance of bridging theory and practice by saying ''The molecular biology workshop provided an excellent combination of theoretical knowledge provided by our product specialists and hands-on practical training. Participants gained valuable experience using our range of high-performance instruments including automation, while learning the importance of robust sample preparation for achieving reliable results.''
