JMM Case Reports receives over 100 submissions

In September 2013, the Society for General Microbiology opened submissions for JMM Case Reports (JMMCR), a fully open access, online-only journal and the Society’s first new publication in almost 50 years. The response we received from authors has far exceeded our expectations and on 24 February 2014 – one month after full launch – we received our 100th submission. It seems that this trend is only going to continue, as the rate of submissions is increasing consistently.

As well as the high number of submissions we are happy to report that all of our intended subject areas have been well represented: Blood/heart lymphatics; Bone; Central nervous system; Dental; Gastrointestinal; Hepatic; Ocular; Oropharyngeal; Respiratory; Soft tissue and Urinary tract and reproductive organs. Furthermore, the journal’s international scope is not only reflected by our global Editorial Board but by the geographic diversity of authors submitting to the journal, with 30 countries represented (Fig. 1).

The first issue opened on the 22nd of January 2014. Our current most-read article is a case report by Carleton et al. that explores antimicrobial therapies related to clustered multidrug-resistant Bordetella Petrii in adult cystic fibrosis patients in Ireland. The Society aims to publish articles online within four weeks of acceptance, with a current average time from acceptance to issue publication of 28 days.

JMM Case Reports publishes original case reports on medical, dental and veterinary microbiology and infectious diseases, including bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology. The journal also publishes case reviews and case quizzes. All open access charges have been waived during the launch period – for information on how to submit a paper please visit our Information for Authors page.
