Our Strategy

We are a membership charity for scientists interested in microbes, their effects and their practical uses. We have a worldwide membership based in universities, industry, hospitals, research institutes, schools, and other organisations. Our members have a unique depth and breadth of knowledge about the discipline. Our role is to help unlock and harness the potential of that knowledge. We do this by bringing together and empowering communities that shape the future of microbiology. We generate public benefit by fostering communication both among communities of microbiologists and between microbiologists and other communities who can translate that knowledge in useful ways.

Code of Conduct and Complaints Policy

The Society’s Code of Conduct applies to all staff, Trustees, Advisory Council members, attendees, sponsors, volunteers and third parties. This Code of Conduct sets out the standard of behaviour and conduct expected by the Society generally and in various scenarios, including but not limited to attendance and/or participation in Society-led activities and those representing the Microbiology Society at any external events, any meetings and/or activities. This applies in every space related to our own and external events, at social events associated with an event (irrespective of venue), and to all participants and staff in every role across all Society meetings and activities. There is an additional Trustee Code of Conduct which also applies to Trustees of the Microbiology Society in respect of their role on the board. The Code of Conduct should be read alongside the Code of Conduct complaints procedure.

The Society’s Complaints Policy

This policy sets out how the Society will deal with external complaints.
