All newly appointed or elected members of Council receive an induction and are required to complete declarations of other interests, including potential competing interests, and that they are not disqualified from serving as company directors and charity trustees.Interests, Loyalties and Conflicts statement
Council normally meets quarterly and receives reports from, or considers business raised by, the President and by the Committees of Council, together with Society staff. The Chief Executive and other senior staff, as appropriate, attend Council meetings.
Council has formally identified the specific risks that might face the Society and its ability to function in pursuit of its charitable objectives, through compilation of a critical risk register, and has formulated policies to avoid occurrence of these risks or mitigate their effects. The critical risk register is reviewed and updated regularly, at least annually.Microbiology Society Strategy 2018–2022
