The Society’s Publishing partners with Open Access Key and Jisc

The Society’s Publishing has partnered with Open Access Key (OAK) for the collection of article processing charges (APCs). From now on, when authors decide to publish their article through the Society’s Gold Open Access route, OAK will contact them via email following acceptance to collect payment of any APCs that may be required.

There are many benefits of this partnership for Society authors. OAK provides a simple and secure payment portal where all payments can be clearly viewed and monitored in one place. It speeds up the open access process by giving authors key functionality to help with their workflow, for example, authors can choose to split payments between collaborating colleagues. Authors’ accounts can also be linked directly to their university or funding organization to allow a central finance department to make the payment, making payment of APCs quicker and easier than before.

We have also joined the Jisc APC pilot project for institutional payments, sharing knowledge and exploring key issues with other publishers and institutions to help develop better ways to handle Gold Open Access administration. Key benefits for participating institutions include the facility for Jisc to hold funds for institutions and to provide detailed financial reports. The Society is committed to making the open access process as straightforward and useful for our authors as possible, and we are proud to be members of this important project.
