John F Peberdy MBE, Emeritus Professor of Biotechnology and Enterprise at the University of Nottingham, sadly passed away on 14 May 2020. Here, Dr Paul Dyer and Professor Rosie Bradshaw reflect on John's life and his impact on the mycology community.

The Journal of Medical Microbiology (JMM) is a journal published by the Microbiology Society, focused on providing a comprehensive coverage of medical, dental and veterinary microbiology and infectious diseases, including bacteriology, virology, mycology and parasitology. This month, Dr Stephen Michell has selected an outstanding paper from the October issue to highlight as Editor's Choice. The paper, titled 'Sensitivity of the Candida albicans trehalose-deficient mutants tps1Δ and tps2Δ to amphotericin B and micafungin' discusses a potential new target for antifungal medication.

The British Yeast Group: Embracing Variation 2018 Focused Meeting took place in Leicester between 27–29 June. This year's meeting included eight sessions, 18 offered papers, 17 posters and a full social programme offering everything from a beer tasting to a live band. We’ve turned to Twitter to look at some of the highlights of the meeting.

This June, Charley McCarthy presented his poster ‘The pangenome of Aspergillus fumigatus’ at the Early Career Microbiologists Summer Conference in Birmingham. Charley is in the third year of his PhD at Maynooth University, supervised by Dr David Fitzpatrick. For those of you that couldn't attend the conference, here, Charley discusses his research.
