Annual General Meeting and Showcase of the Society's Achievements
The Society holds an Annual General Meeting (AGM) and Showcase of the Society's Achievements event each year at Charles Darwin House, London.
The 2017 AGM took place on Thursday 7 September.
As the Microbiology Society launches its strategy for the next five years, the process of Brexit will dominate the external environment for scientists in the UK and may well have a significant impact on science in Ireland. Council wants to consult the membership about what the Society can do to support you as the world changes, and this will provide an excellent opportunity for members to discuss how best to handle this major change.
Following this year’s AGM, we were joined by Professor Graeme Reid, a member of the Government’s High Level Forum on Science and Brexit, and by Professor Nick Talbot, who is on the Russell Group’s Europe advisory group, for a lecture and open discussion. Our invited speakers have been intimately involved in crucial interactions both with the UK Government and the EU negotiating team. This was an important chance for members to influence what the Microbiology Society does to make the most positive contribution on your behalf during Brexit.
