Overview

The Society is pleased to offer an exciting new series of workshops and webinars for early career researchers and those who want to better understand how academic publishing works, including how to get involved with the Society’s journals as authors, editors or reviewers.

The Publishing Fundamentals workshop series will offer attendees the opportunity to learn from publishing specialists from the Society’s staff and senior research scientists who are experienced editors across the Society’s journals and have an active role in shaping our publishing portfolio and assessing papers submitted to our journals.

The first workshop of the Publishing Fundamentals series will be held on 20 May 2024 from 10:00-16:00 in London at the Microbiology Society and will focus on two key topics relating to academic publishing: how to write a successful paper, and how to review a paper. The workshop will be interactive and provide the opportunity to dive into what editors and reviewers are looking for in a manuscript, understand how authors can avoid multiple rounds of revision and how to improve your reviewing skills to help your peers shape their research.

To make the workshop as insightful and engaging as possible, numbers will be limited to 20 places. Ahead of the workshop, delegates will receive further details on the programme and will be asked to complete some preparatory work.
