The Microbiology Society offers support to members and delegates attending the Annual Conference in Belfast this April, in order to reduce barriers to participation. Members are invited to apply for funding for travel and accommodation or caring costs, and all delegates are welcome to register for our crèche during the conference.

To support early career researchers in presenting their work, the Society offers Conference Grants to Full Concessionary and Postgraduate members who have had their abstracts accepted. The grants of up to £245 are now open for application for poster and talk presenters alike, to support registration, travel and accommodation. Society Conference Grant support is also available to members working as technicians, and retired members who would like to support early career delegates.

In addition to travel support, the Society offers funds of up to £500 to support caring costs of members – this is not restricted to those presenting, to help us support those who would otherwise find attending the Conference difficult. This includes members returning from maternity or paternity leave, those requiring childcare, those requiring a carer to attend with them or those with any other similar barrier to attendance.

To support delegates during the Annual Conference, we are again collaborating with Nipperbout to provide a free crèche at the Annual Conference 2019. The crèche will be available to all children of delegates between the ages of 0 to 12 years. The crèche is free for delegates but operates on a first come first served basis.

The deadline for Conference Grants is 31 January 2019. To find out more about Society Conference Grants and caring costs support please see the website. To register your interest in our crèche service please contact [email protected].
