Applications now open – join our Council, Committees and Divisions

We are pleased to announce that applications are now open for positions across our governance structure and we would like to hear from you!

The members who make up our governance structure take on essential roles to support the success of the Society. This year, we have 62 vacancies available across our Council, Committees, Divisions and the Members Panel. Joining our governance structure is great for your professional development and networking, whilst also allowing you to get more involved with the Society’s community.

Different roles in the governance structure have different time commitments associated with them; they generally involve attending at least two meetings per year, one of which will be in person. The positions are voluntary, but the Society covers travel and accommodation costs associated with attending in person meetings and provides relevant documentation to support meeting discussions. You do not have to be a current member to apply yourself or put someone else forward. We accept applications from non-members with the caveat that, if the application is successful, the candidate should become a member before starting their new role.

The Society is committed to creating an inclusive culture, which requires a governance structure that fully reflects both its membership and the global microbiology community. We welcome applications from across the full breadth of the membership and are particularly keen to receive applications from members from historically marginalised backgrounds.
